Constatine

CONSTANTINE

At the beginning of the opening sequence there is a sense of equilibrium. There is only one character that the audience are introduced first and this is a woman who is making tea and walking towards her daughters room. As soon as the woman opens the door she freaks out and drops the tea and the tray on the floor and falls to her knees, the audience is then showed that the woman is religious as she crosses herself, this is a religious reference. A medium close up is used to allow the audience to see what made the woman freak out it can also be described as a point of view shot, as the audience are viewing everything from the woman's point of view. We see a  young girl on her ceiling and it is clear that she is possessed and that there is paranormal activity going on inside the bedroom. This activity can indicate to the audience the genre of the film.

Using a bird eye view shot, the audience are slowly beginning to be introduced to the main character. The main character is smoking a cigarette and he uses this as a timer, to show how fast he can get the job done. When he is releasing the demon from the girls body, there is shot where the cigarette is shown, to suggest how much time he has left. This also suggests that he can get the job done quickly because he is obviously experienced in his field of work and that he can get the job done before the cigarette completely burns out.

When the audience was introduced to the main character, there is dialogue between in him and another character who called him to the job. It is clear that the other character is scared and this is represented in the stutter in the way he talks and the way he can't keep still because he is fearing whatever demon is inside the young girl. However, the main character doesn't seem to be phased by the demon and walks towards the gate that will lead him to the girl and the demon. When he is in the hallway going towards the young girls room, people begin to move out the way and make room for him to come through, this suggests to the audience that he is the authoritative figure in the building.

When he arrives in the girls room, he puts down the cigarette and pulls down the sheet covering the window, to brighten up the room but also to put the demon off. He then pulls out a set of symbols from his pocket and puts them towards the light and finds a symbol that will affect the demon. He then goes up to the girl that is possessed and introduced himself to the demon by saying ''this is Constantine, John Constantine, ass hole.'' This is to tell the demon inside the girl who is in charge.

The main prop used in the opening sequence in a Bible and a crucifix necklace, and these are used by the mother of the young girl. This could be to signify how religious the mother is and other members of the building as they are also praying.

The sound used in the opening sequence varies through out. The beginning of the opening sequence starts off with ambient sound, this is used to create a daily life experience for the audience to relate to. When the woman screams, it was used to echo throughout the whole building, this sound is then transitioned into the screeching tyres of a car. When the car is introduced to the audience, a low angle medium shot is used and non-diegetic music.
